Volunteering Opportunities
One of the most rewarding things you can do is donate your time and skills and feel the satisfaction of making a difference first hand. TLC offers many volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups of all sizes. Whether you want to volunteer on a regular basis, or a one time project, TLC is greatly appreciative of your desire to make a difference in the lives of the homeless. Listed below are some current ideas for projects, based up on our specific needs at this moment.
Children’s Activities We need individuals or small groups to provide activities for the children of TLC. These activity sessions would be in 2 hour segments. This work allows the kids to have some fun and also give their parents a break.
Mentors We need individuals to assist TLC residents with transportation and daily tasks. Examples of this would include, grocery shopping, transportation to welfare office, medical visits, et cetera.
Room Renovations We need groups to clean and paint resident rooms/bathrooms.
We also have 40 individual rooms that need to be completely renovated. Whether your group would be willing to renovate one room or all 40, this would make for a good project for groups from area schools, churches, businesses, et cetera. Groups in the past have raised money to buy the supplies, such as carpet, ceiling tiles, furniture, etc or had companies/businesses donate the materials. Groups then gather volunteers and tackle the room renovations which are very beneficial to both the building its’ residents.
Cleaning/Maintenance All cleaning and maintenance positions are currently staffed by volunteers who work on a weekly basis. We are in need of other individuals to do the same.
If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, or have an idea of your own, we’d like to hear from you. Please email dhopwood@tabornet.org or call Doug Hopwood at 717-397-3034.
