Plaza Project Complete

The plaza is finished, complete with lighted artwork. This project has been six years in the making, broke ground in December 2010, and was completed early this month. So come by Tabor to check out the new plaza and sculpture or come by Saturday morning for Eastern Market. In the evening, the plaza and sculpture come to life when all the lights are on. The sculpture also shows the first poem featured of the Franklin and Marshall Poetry Paths Project which reads: “Bring me a chair in the midst of thunder, a chair for me and for everyone not only to relieve an exhausted body but for every purpose and for every person, for squandered strength and for meditation….a single chair is the first sign of peace” from “Ode to the Chair” by Pablo Neruda.

Funding for the Creation of Eastern Market Plaza provided by: Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), Lancaster County Urban Enhancement, Ferree Foundation, Elm Street and Poetry Paths Project, with support from the City of Lancaster.

Plaza construction by Flyway Excavating, architect and designer of the sculpture, Chris Dawson, architect of Dawson Architects, Inc. and sculpture fabrication and installation by CH&E.

Additional thanks to Derck & Edson for plaza design & project planning.
