About Veterans Victory House

Recognizing that 20% of those experiencing homelessness are veterans, TLC created Veterans' Victory House (VVH). VVH provides 17 rooms and supportive services for veterans at 105 East King Street The goal of Veterans' Victory House is permanent housing for veterans.

Budgeting, job referral, and training & counseling are often major cornerstones of this plan. There are also weekly visits from our liaison from the Lebanon VA Medical Center.

We realize there may be circumstances that make the process of obtaining permanent housing a little longer: applying for AND receiving benefits, obtaining a job, or working though personal issues (including but not limited to PTSD), but the goal remains the same - permanent housing. We are fortunate to be able to tap into many government programs (specifically the new HUD VASH-Section 8) and the resources of Tabor in completing this goal for our Vets.

Needs

Specifically because of applying for benefits, and the delay in receiving them, our Veterans need jobs of all shapes and sizes. As with the general population, talents, gifts and abilities vary, but offering them some employment or activity is paramount to regaining not only income but self-esteem. Permanent housing is always welcomed and if you are a landlord, please consider our Veterans. Most of our Veterans as stated to us, "want a hand up, not a hand out."

History

The Veterans' Victory House was established November 1, 2007. Recognizing that 20% of those experiencing homelessness are veterans, Tabor Community Services, through TLC, applied for a per diem grant from the federal government. After passing an inspection from the Lebanon VA Medical Center, VVH was approved and ready for applicants referred by the Lebanon VA, the County Veteran's Affairs' Office and our local shelter system. Since that date, the VVH has housed 110 Veterans (1/27/2012). There have been 93 men, 10 women and 7 families (1/27/2012). Out of that total over 60% of those leaving have attained VVH's goal of permanent housing.
