TLC Redo

September 29, 2016

As many walk past TLC at 105 E. King Street, few realize the magnitude of the building. Even after walking in, one does not appreciate the size of the building and the number of people we have living with us as they work their way out of homelessness back to permanent housing. Working out of a building that is over 100 years old is a large challenge, but through YOU, our devoted friends and volunteers, we are doing our best to make it happen.

Currently our windows and façade over the entire 5-story building are being repainted. After being reminded by the City, and recognizing our old paint had seen better days, we employed Hursh Painting to do the job. They have been hard at it for over two weeks. Please take a moment and look up the next time you walk by—it looks sharp and adds to the impressive skyline the 100 block of East King Street is becoming.

Also, at this same time, we are in the process of repairing and shoring up our kitchen area and the roof above it. This has been a problem for years, with leaking and plaster issues galore. Obviously, our kitchen area is critical, especially when our population just eclipsed 100 individuals, with 40 of them being children.

This process is ongoing and will be further enhanced by our very recent grant award from GSM Roofing. We entered the grant competition, and on September 16, 2016, we were awarded the top prize of $25,000. Thank you GSM Roofing for the award and all you do for the communities in which you do business. What a great business and community partner! (See video here). A big thank you to our development department and especially Viktoria for putting together an awesome video (a requirement of the grant process).

Many times we emphasize the people we assist and walk with as they achieve their goal of permanent housing, their successful journeys; and we will continue to do so. But in order to do that great work, we must keep our building up to code and our appearance representative of a growing, thriving Lancaster community. We have invested over $50,000 in this effort to date and appreciate greatly the support you give us, allowing this “TLC redo” to happen. Stop by and see us and we will gladly show you around. We love to talk to our friends and supporters face to face. Can’t make it downtown? Please remember to join us on October 20, 2016, for our Volunteer Recognition and Fundraising Banquet to catch up on all we are doing—good things ARE happening at TLC, and a lot of that goodness is a direct result of your support! Thank you! Register or sponsor online.
