The leaves are falling and winter is right around the corner. As many of us anticipate winter and the holiday season, 50 or so folks in our community are preparing in other ways.
At this time, there are about 40 men and 10 women living outdoors. These are folks I encounter a few times each week…some of them every day. For various reasons they find themselves facing the elements and, as expected, in need of survival gear.
The items that top the list are longunderwear, wintersocks, hats and gloves. Sleepingbagsare also in short supply and priority will be given to those who are least likely to find any kind of shelter this winter. As you may have heard, local meteorologists are predicting anywhere from 2-3 feet of snow. Let us pray our families have peace and comfort this winter…and let’s ensure those experiencing homelessness do the same.
