Christmas time

Christmas time means different things to different people. In the seven years I have worked at TLC I’ve witnessed that Christmas time here centers on the spirit of giving; giving of one’s self from the heart and also giving gifts that light up the faces of the children. People and organizations from all over Lancaster County reach out and give to TLC at Christmas to ensure that every person staying here knows they are not forgotten, that they matter.

Our volunteers give extra time and energy to keeping the building running smoothly during the busy season. The nursing students from HACC who do their clinical work here give an evening to helping the residents decorate the lobby with trees and lights. TLC Staff give extra effort to the task of making sure every person or family with whom they are working has the opportunity to experience a Christmas that is relatively happy, healthy and safe. Our staff become like elves, making lists and checking them more than twice so that the children and adults have a sense of being cared for at this time of year.

The TLC Director is no exception to the spirit of Christmas giving that is present at TLC; tirelessly and with great patience he leads the Lancaster County Project for the Needy to facilitate a Christmas Dinner Box give away that allows thousands of people to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner with all the sides.

It’s hard to know what the ripple effect of any act of giving will be but I know for certain that it instills a sense of peace and hope in one’s heart, and there is no greater gift that any one of us could give or receive. From all of us at TLC, we wish you a hopeful and peaceful Christmas time.
