Seldom does anything happen or get accomplished without community. We can see this in so many different aspects of our private and professional lives. Isn’t it easier to achieve a goal or finish a project when one has help? Just as important, is it not easier to come back from loss, injury or a setback when one has the assistance of others?

At TLC we have always been very cognizant of our existence being the direct result of our partnerships with community, and we are so very thankful for that. This weekend we are blessed to share in the Empty Bowls event held in conjunction with our friends at Kevin Lehman’s Pottery studio and the Lancaster Creative Factory. This brings together restaurants, artisans and the community—all in an effort to combat hunger and homelessness. The event, which has grown in size, is a perfect example of a community of people joining to raise awareness, funds and action to solve a problem.

Potters have been working year-round to produce over 500 unique clay pots; restaurants and caterers are supplying the soup; the team behind the event has been meeting for months to make sure the event is a success and fun for all. WGAL is filming today to help promote awareness, and volunteers will be busy this week making sure the space is ready—all to bring community together for a great day on Sunday.

This event is one of many during the year we will highlight in this blog. The 8th Annual Empty Bowls event helps, through a fun interaction of community, by making sure the most basic of needs are met—hunger. This basic need filled, it allows the team at TLC to walk alongside families and individuals as they move from homelessness to housing. We invite you to come and join us, but more importantly, in whatever way, we invite you to join community—for in community there is the ability to solve all. Enjoy your day, this day and always.
