Staff Spotlight: Kaitlyn!

I grew up in a tiny town in Southern York County: Delta, Pennsylvania. I moved to Lancaster County in 2017 to attend school at Millersville University and am currently studying to become a social worker. I plan to graduate with my BSW in May and begin working towards a master’s degree in June.

How did you get involved with TLC? What do you do at TLC?

I began as a volunteer at TLC in August of 2017 and was offered a position as a Program Reporting Assistant 4 months later. Recognizing that the agency’s mission aligned perfectly with my values, I gratefully accepted the position.

What do you like most about working at TLC?

I love having the chance to interact with such wonderful individuals everyday: both staff members and clients alike! Witnessing clients grow towards self-sufficiency is an experience that is unmatched in value.

What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile?

The gratitude, pride, and pure joy I see in clients’ eyes when they obtain housing for themselves and their families.

What is one moment that stood out to you?

Seeing a veteran and his young son both tear up as they said their most humble thanks to our staff before walking out our doors and into their own apartment.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Learn one or more foreign languages, or learn how to draw/paint.

What kind of hobbies/interests do you have outside of work?

I love to hike, camp, and generally do anything outdoors (as long as it doesn’t involve snow!).

Favorite quote?

“Love thy neighbor, unconditionally.” - A friend’s rendition of the Bible verse, which he turned into a life motto.

TLC, a program of Tabor Community Services, provides short-term interim housing and supportive services for individuals, couples, and families experiencing homelessness, helping them achieve housing stability and self-sufficiency.
